Frequently Asked Questions

Picture
Why do you exist?

In Ontario*, up to 87% of Ministry of Health funds are used once someone is already sick.  However, only a small portion of a person’s well-being is due to the contribution of what we call “healthcare”. Only 2.31% is spent on public health measures, which are meant to impact the massive proportion of health that is due to socio-economic and environmental factors.

Some privately-funded healthcare providers - such as naturopathic doctors - focus on health promotion and disease prevention. However, these services are only accessible to those with jobs that provide extended benefits and/or sufficient disposable income. They also tend to focus on behaviour change, neglecting the social and ecological determinants of health.

Our health system is neither free, nor universal.

The consequence is an epidemic of non-communicable chronic disease
among those with adequate income, and more so among those without.

* we are pleased to work with clients in other provinces and jurisdictions; the focus on illness instead of health promotion is a universal problem - the statistics in Ontario are but one example.

There are many corporate and personal retreat services available; why should we choose you?

Our team is composed of two naturopathic doctors with unique experience in adult education and public health. There is strong evidence for the benefit of both naturopathic medicine and group-based programs for individual health outcomes and organizational productivity.

From nature immersion to conflict resolution workshops, we apply our skills as naturopathic doctors, experienced teachers, and wilderness guides to respond to your goals. The final experience is individualized, interactive and experiential; participants leave with practical ways to immediately embody what they’ve discovered.  Engaging in this process as a group catalyzes compassion, builds trust, and amplifies motivation in a way that one-on-one work rarely does.

We also seek clients that choose to work with us not only for their own benefit, but as means of social and ecological responsibility; partnering with us enables us to provide our services to organizations that serve marginalized individuals and advocate for systemic change.
